I remember getting this book for xmas as I was big Johnny Morris fan. Odd to think that (even) for a short time in my life I actually believed the animals were talking. What I was always slightly suspicious about was why they all sounded so alike, later I figured that it must have been Johhny who taught them to speak and that sorta explained it.
